Are You Staying Busy?

It's unlikely that your career transition will go like clockwork, no matter how diligent you are. You may have some slow times while you're waiting for the responses, or between interviews. It's important that you stay busy with activities that mean something to YOU - volunteer work, exercise clases, skills training - whatever gives you pleasure and enhances your self-esteem. CareerFables has put together a list of volunteer organizations, exercise groups, and skills training activities that can help you use your time to your best advantage. Check out other opportunities where you live - small town or big city, every community needs volunteers.

Take Care of Yourself
A Note to Our Members…

During the first few months after I left my career of 18 years, I learned the harsh reality that I had not planned well for the " next steps." My path was not clear, my purpose unsettled. There was no place to get the honest help I needed to make the transition. I knew what I did not want to do again, but I didn't have a clue what I wanted to do.

Staying busy, filling the days with a purpose, is essential. Not rushing into the first opportunity is also important. Stay active, stay involved, but allow yourself time to mentally and emotionally separate from your past job.

I always dreamed of writing a novel, so I began one. I also grew the finest vegetable garden the soil would allow and I taught at a local University. I had many lists of things I wanted to do. Once I realized that my career change was a blessing, I began to pursue what I felt passionate about doing. If I hadn't allowed myself time to get through this process, CareerFables would not exist today.

Use this time for you. Wasting it would be a shame. You've earned it.
